River Tidying

The Baildon Parish Council, after listening to a Baildon resident, started raising the issue of neglect and debris in and around the River Aire in Baildon. As a result several organisations have been spurred into action. Bradford Council’s Neighbourhood Service, Environmental Health, Countrysides & Rights of Way, The Environment Agency, the Probation Service and Network Rail have all played a part in the substantial improvements along the river.
The information below is from Liz Bailey, Neighbourhood Warden who has helped co-ordinate much of the work.
- The Environment Agency and the Probation Service have done a lot of work in the last few weeks removing trees and debris from the river and its banks. They have filled 3 skips of waste and done a great job.
- Myself and our Environmental Health Enforcement Officer have been working with business asking them to clean up the land backing onto the river and reminding them of their duty of care.
- Network Rail have also erected a substantial piece of fencing on Dockfield Road down by the railway bridge. This was not planned for another couple of years but they have brought it forward as part of this initiative. This will prevent waste entering the river from people flytipping at this site.
There is a planned Community Litterpick on Monday 28th March 2011, starting at 10am-12noon and 1.00-3.00pm meeting at Focus DIY carpark. Please let Liz know if you are able to join in. 07582 100769 or email
